Gail van Lingen: Renowned Artist Captures History, Culture and Nature
Gail van Lingen’s work is the result of the years of meanderings through France and Spain and Portugal; from the tip of Africa in the Cape up through the wild bush and lush green landscapes of Kwa-Zulu, Natal and on to Mozambique, to the exotic island of Lamu off the coast of Kenya, to the Nile in Egypt and the idyllic South Sinai village of Dahab on the Gulf of Aqaba. Her paintings are oil on canvas using a palette knife, along with a series of stunning watercolors. Gail’s work gives a striking impression of the places she has visited, and the culture she’s studied.
Oil Paintings That Tell Stories
Gail’s paintings are windows into the past, exploring salient historical events; and cultural exposition. Her robust and joyous use of paint is both thick and fluid and captures light, shade and reflections in broad strokes of colour.
Her style is uniquely her own and is a wonderful fusion of impressionism and expressionism. Witness her charmingly whimsical combination of modern day rural Egyptian life with echoes of the country’s great Pharaohonic past in some of her Nile canvases. Share her love for all things African, in her renditions of Boer War battles, and the Maasa Mara Women in Kenya. Gail van Lingen is an artist who paints as much with her heart as she does with her eye.
